Planets have fields, the size of the planet does not decide how many fields it has. It is random chance. When colonising a new planet be sure to check the fields, before deciding to build it up.
You can delete the planet and recolonise the same planet for the desired number of fields. around 300 fields if you plan to stay here a long time, otherwise 200-250 is ok for most players.
Building Teraformer increases the number of fields
